Our overseas factories are messy with equipments or parts compared with our factories in Japan. A messy work place can be dangerous and decrease efficiency.
Right. I think that's because Japanese 5S methodology still hasn't spread into overseas factories.
そうですね、海外工場では日本の「5S」のような考え方が浸透していないからではないでしょうか。
What is the 5S?
「5S」とは何ですか?
5S is the name of a workplace organization methodology that uses five Japanese words. These Japanese words have been converted in English to Sorting, Setting-in-Order, Shining, Standardizing and Sustaining the Discipline.
「5S」とは、日本語の5つの単語を使った職場整理の手法です。これらの単語について英語では、Sorting(整理)、 Setting-in-Order(整頓)、 Shining(清掃)、Standardizing(清潔)、 Sustaining the Discipline(しつけ)などとされています。
"Sorting" means to keep only essential items and eliminate things not required.
Sorting(整理)は、作業エリアには必要なものだけを置き、いらないものを除くこと。
"Set-in-Order" means there should be a place for everything and everything should be in its place. And the places should be easily-accessible.
